What will you pay to drop off at a London airport?

Dropping someone off at a London airport terminal costs £7 to £13 for a ten-minute stop in 2026, depending on the airport, and Heathrow is the cheapest at £7 per entry. All five airports record number plates on camera, and the charge must be paid by midnight the following day, online or by phone.

£7

Heathrow: £7 each time you enter a terminal drop-off zone.

Same stop at every London airport

Charges read from each airport’s website on 25 September 2026. Pay online or by phone by midnight the day after your visit; the charge is per vehicle, not per passenger.

The charge is per vehicle and per visit, not per passenger, and it applies to private cars, taxis and private hire vehicles alike. Heathrow charges the same whether you stop for two minutes or twenty; the other four charge by the minute or in steps, so a long goodbye at Stansted or London City costs two to three times the basic fee.

    Heathrow

What does the Heathrow drop-off charge cost?

Heathrow charges one flat fee each time a vehicle enters a terminal drop-off zone at Terminals 2, 3, 4 or 5, 24 hours a day. There is no time band, so a two-minute stop and a twenty-minute stop cost the same, and every new entry is charged again.

    • Pay by midnight the next day online, by phone on 0330 008 5600 or with an AutoPay account. Card only; cash and cheques are not accepted.
    • An unpaid charge becomes a Parking Charge, halved if you pay it within 14 days.
    • Free alternative: drop off at the Heathrow Park & Ride car parks, previously Long Stay, and take the free bus to the terminal.
    • Taxis and private hire pay too. Blue Badge holders can apply for a discount, including when they arrive by taxi.

A friend who drops you off and later collects you pays twice, once for each entry. Our Heathrow airport transfer meets you inside the terminal instead.

    Gatwick

Gatwick drop-off charge: what you pay and for how long

Gatwick charges £10 for the first 10 minutes in the North or South Terminal drop-off zones, then adds a charge for each extra minute up to 20 minutes. The maximum stay is 30 minutes, and there is a daily cap for repeat visits.

    • Pay by midnight the day after your visit, online, by phone or with AutoPay; late or missing payment brings a Parking Charge Notice.
    • Free alternative: the Long Stay car parks are free for two hours, with a free shuttle bus to both terminals.
    • Blue Badge holders are exempt once they register the vehicle with the airport.
    • No barriers: drive in, stop in a marked bay and leave; cameras record the time in and out.

A long goodbye is the expensive part at Gatwick: twenty minutes costs double the basic fee. The Gatwick airport transfer page explains where our driver meets you.

    Stansted

What does Stansted charge to drop off at the terminal?

Stansted charges a basic fee for up to 15 minutes in the Express Set Down area and £28 for any longer stay, prices in force since 19 March 2026. The zone is barrier-free and paid online, by phone or by AutoPay.

    • The 15-minute line matters: one minute over almost triples the charge, the steepest jump at any London airport.
    • Free alternative: the free drop-off area at the Mid Stay car park, with a free shuttle bus to the terminal.
    • Short Stay car parks suit longer pickups, charged by the half hour and the hour.

Our Stansted to London transfer uses the car park for pickups, so the fixed fare does not change with the queue at passport control.

    Luton

What is the Luton Airport drop-off charge?

The Luton drop-off charge is £9 for up to 12 minutes in the Drop Off Zone, then rises by the minute, with a maximum stay of 30 minutes. The zone is a five-minute walk from the terminal and payment is online only, by midnight the following day.

    • Staying beyond 30 minutes brings an enforcement charge, reduced if paid within 14 days.
    • Free alternative: the Long Stay car park is free for two hours, with a ten-minute bus ride to the terminal.
    • No Blue Badge concession in the main zone; Blue Badge holders get 30 minutes free in Terminal Car Park 1.

Luton is the only London airport with no reduction for Blue Badge holders in its main drop-off zone. The Luton airport transfer page lists fixed fares into London.

    London City

What is the London City Airport drop-off charge?

London City Airport charges £8 for up to five minutes on the terminal forecourt, then adds a charge for each extra minute, with a maximum stay of ten minutes. It has the tightest time limit of the five airports.

    • Pay by midnight the day after through the APCOA website to avoid extra fees.
    • Blue Badge holders can register for ten minutes free in the drop-off area, or 60 minutes free in the Pick Up area.
    • Collecting someone? Use the Pick Up area; waiting on the forecourt can bring a penalty.

For a pickup without the forecourt clock, see our London City Airport transfer.

    Chauffeur

Do taxis and chauffeurs pay the drop-off charge?

Yes. Every airport applies the charge to black cabs and private hire vehicles as well as private cars, and a driver who waits on the forecourt for a delayed passenger pays by the minute at Gatwick, Luton and London City. A pre-booked chauffeur avoids the forecourt clock by waiting in the car park and meeting you inside the terminal.

    • One fixed, all-inclusive fare. A Tripyana airport transfer includes the meet and greet, 60 minutes of free waiting after landing and live flight tracking, so a late flight does not add a charge.
    • No friend doing a favour. A return trip to drop off and later collect a traveller means two forecourt charges plus the fuel and time, and a delayed pickup on the Stansted forecourt jumps to the top tariff.
    • Delays are normal. Almost one in four Heathrow arrivals reached the gate more than 15 minutes late in the latest year of CAA data; our Heathrow flight delays study has the figures by route and airline.

    Questions

Frequently asked questions about airport drop-off charges

How much is the Heathrow drop-off charge in 2026?

It is £7 each time a vehicle enters a terminal drop-off zone at Terminals 2, 3, 4 or 5, at any hour and whatever the length of the stop. Pay online or by phone by midnight the following day; after that the airport issues a Parking Charge to the registered keeper.

How much is the Gatwick drop-off charge?

Gatwick charges £10 for the first 10 minutes in the North or South Terminal drop-off zone, then a charge per extra minute up to 20 minutes. The maximum stay is 30 minutes and there is a daily cap. Blue Badge holders who register their vehicle are exempt.

Is there a free drop-off at London airports?

Yes, away from the terminal. Heathrow offers free drop-off at its Park and Ride car parks, Gatwick and Luton give two free hours in the Long Stay car parks, and Stansted has a free drop-off area at the Mid Stay car park. All four run a free bus to the terminal.

What happens if I do not pay the drop-off charge?

The airport issues a Parking Charge to the registered keeper, traced by number-plate cameras, and it costs far more than the fee itself. Every airport gives you until midnight the day after the visit to pay the normal charge before the penalty applies.

Which London airport has the cheapest drop-off charge?

Heathrow, for any stop longer than a few minutes, because its fee is flat per entry. London City and Luton are cheaper only for the shortest stops, and the gap widens with every minute. The calculator above compares all five airports for the length of stop you enter.

Do I pay the drop-off charge in a taxi or chauffeur car?

The driver pays it, because the charge falls on the vehicle, not the passenger. Taxis and private hire cars pay the same fee as private cars. A metered taxi may add it to the fare; a fixed-fare chauffeur transfer includes its own costs in the price agreed in advance.
