The journey

Heathrow to Dover is roughly 100 miles via the M25 and M2, usually around 2 hours door-to-door depending on traffic. We cover both terminals at the Western Docks — Cruise Terminal 1 and Cruise Terminal 2 — and your chauffeur drops you at your ship’s specific berth, not just the port gate. How to get from Heathrow to Dover cruise terminal

Your chauffeur checks the flight, waits in the arrivals hall holding a name board and loads the cases once. From Heathrow the route is the M25 and M2 to Dover’s Western Docks — around 100 miles and about 2 hours door-to-berth — then through the port gate to the cruise terminal your ship is using, Terminal 1 in the historic Marine Station or Terminal 2 beside it. Arriving the day before, or stopping on the way to Dover

You can fly in on sailing day or a day early, and both plans work with one booking. Landing the same day depends on your cruise line’s boarding cut-off.

• Same day: we meet you in Heathrow arrivals and drive straight to the Western Docks.
• Day before: enter your hotel as the pickup address and choose a sailing-morning time.
• Staying in Kent: a hotel in Canterbury or Dover works as a pickup or drop-off point too.

Canterbury and Leeds Castle both sit near the road to Dover. A short stop at either can be added on request, if your boarding time allows. Mention it when booking so we confirm the timing and price before you travel.

What to expect when you reach the Dover cruise terminal

The Port of Dover shows which terminal your ship uses in its online cruise schedule. Check it a few days before sailing and tell us if it changes. Both cruise terminals sit at the Western Docks, Dover CT17 9DQ.

• Aim for your check-in slot, not earlier: the port has no waiting areas, and neither terminal sells food or drinks.
• There is no left-luggage service before or after the cruise, so you go straight from the car to check-in.
• Baggage handlers at the terminal take your large cases to the ship. Keep passports, medicines and valuables in your hand luggage.
• There is no ATM or currency exchange at either terminal, so bring any pounds you need for the trip.

Landing early? A short stop on the way, or a later pickup from your hotel, is usually more comfortable than waiting at the port.

Disembarkation morning: your Dover cruise terminal transfer home

The trip home runs in reverse, from the terminal your ship returns to. Send us the ship name, the return date and the time your cruise line gives you to leave the ship, and we set the pickup around it.

• Collect your cases inside the terminal, where baggage handlers help with the luggage, then walk straight out to the car.
• Flying home the same day? Plan on around 2 hours to Heathrow plus check-in with your airline before you choose a flight. A later departure leaves room if leaving the ship takes longer than expected.
• Staying on in London? Use your hotel address as the drop-off, and the fare for the car is fixed before you confirm.

Booking both legs now? Choose Return (new ride) when you book and enter the disembarkation date and time as the second journey.

Travelling with a wheelchair or needing extra help

Choose the special assistance option on the booking form and tell us what help you need. Our Mercedes cars are not wheelchair-accessible vehicles. The passenger moves from the wheelchair to a car seat, and a folding chair travels in the boot.

Your chauffeur helps at the kerb at both ends, with the door, the chair and the cases. Help inside the cruise terminal and on board is arranged with your cruise line. Request it when you book the cruise, then let us know so the pickup allows extra time.

At Heathrow, the airport’s free assistance service is booked through your airline and can bring you to the arrivals hall.

Travelling to your Dover cruise with children?

Child seats are free on every transfer, for children of all ages. That covers baby seats, child seats and boosters.

Add each child’s age to your booking, and the right seats are fitted before pickup. Children count as passengers, so include them in the passenger total.

A family of four with car seats and cruise cases is most comfortable in the Mercedes V-Class. It takes up to 7 passengers and 7 large cases, and a folded pushchair goes in the boot.

Your chauffeur meets the whole family in the arrivals hall at Heathrow Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5. Children need a break on the road? A short comfort stop is fine when your boarding time allows.

Western Docks or Eastern Docks: reaching the right part of Dover

Dover has two separate harbour areas, and the difference matters on sailing day. Cruise ships use the Western Docks, where both cruise terminals stand. The Eastern Docks, at the other end of the seafront below Dover Castle, handle the cross-Channel ferries to France. Arriving at the wrong one means a slow drive back through town with every case still loaded.

Your chauffeur heads for the Western Docks gate and follows the cruise signs to the terminal your ship is using. Share the ship name and the terminal printed on your cruise documents when you book, and we plan the drive to that building rather than the ferry check-in.
