How the day runs
Departure from your hotel
Your driver arrives at your London hotel entrance at the time you chose, between 8:00am and 12:00 noon. The drive to Cambridge takes around an hour and a half depending on traffic.
King’s College and its chapel
The defining view of Cambridge: the great Gothic chapel and the lawns running down to the river. Start here while the morning light is on the stone.
The old lanes and the Bridge of Sighs
Wander the medieval streets between the colleges to St John’s and its covered Bridge of Sighs over the Cam — the city is compact, and everything is on foot.
Punting on the River Cam
The classic Cambridge hour: a flat-bottomed punt poled along the Backs, passing under the bridges while the colleges slide by. Tickets are bought from the punting companies on the river.
Lunch and the market square
Cafés, pubs and the market square fill the gaps between colleges — take your time; your driver is not waiting on a clock.
Back to your hotel

- Book punting for the early afternoon. It is the natural rest after a morning on foot — shared tours run on a schedule, private punts are more flexible and cost more.
- The colleges are working universities. Opening hours change with terms and exams, and some close to visitors entirely in exam season — check before you set your heart on one.
- The city centre is walking-only. Your driver drops you at the edge of the old centre and waits — everything inside is closer than it looks on the map.
- Around seven hours door to door. Shorter than our Cotswolds or Stonehenge days — a comfortable trip even with children.
