Tripyana’s Woburn Safari Park day trip is a private Mercedes with a chauffeur: your driver collects you at your London hotel between 8am and noon, reaches the park in about 1 hour 15 minutes, drives your own car through the Road Safari among lions and rhinos, waits during the Foot Safari and drives you home. The fare is £450 for the car, up to three passengers, not per person.

How the day runs
Departure from your hotel
Your driver arrives at your London hotel entrance at the time you chose, between 8:00am and 12:00 noon. The drive to Woburn takes roughly 1 hour 15 minutes at those hours on a weekday, by our own hour-by-hour data.
The Road Safari — in your own car
The heart of the day: your Mercedes joins the safari route and drives slowly through the enclosures — lions, tigers, bears, rhinos and giraffes metres from the glass. Your driver handles the route; you handle the camera.
One circuit of the Road Safari takes about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on how long you stop. The route runs through five areas in order: the Northern Plains with bison, wild horses and camels; the Savannah Grasslands with southern white rhinos, zebra and antelope; the Kingdom of the Carnivores, where Amur tigers, black bears and African lions live behind double security gates and every window stays shut; Giraffe Junction; and the African Forest, where Barbary macaques roam free. Your chauffeur takes the bypass around the monkey section unless you ask to go through, and keeps to the animals’ pace. A second lap after lunch is often the best one of the day.
The Foot Safari
The walking half of the park: penguins, lemurs and the keeper talks and feeding times posted for the day. Lunch at the café inside.

Know before you go
- Buy park tickets online before you go. Online tickets are cheaper than the gate price — book them on the park’s official website for your chosen date. Include one ticket for your driver, as the park charges drivers admission too.
- The monkey section is optional. One enclosure on the Road Safari is home to monkeys that climb on cars; a bypass route exists and your driver will take it unless you ask otherwise.
- The Road Safari can be driven more than once. Entry allows repeat circuits on the same day — if the lions were sleeping the first time, go round again.
- Mornings are best for animal activity. The animals are most active in the cooler hours — an earlier departure rewards you at the enclosures.
How long to allow, when to go and who it suits
Allow four to five hours inside the park, plus the drive each way. A weekday morning arrival outside the school holidays gives the calmest visit. The day suits every age, from toddlers to grandparents.
- Time inside the park. Plan 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes for each circuit of the drive-through reserve and two to three hours for the walking area. Add lunch and a second lap if the big cats were asleep.
- Best time of day. Aim to arrive soon after the gates open. Animals tend to be livelier in the cool of the morning, and the afternoon is left for the walking area.
- Best time of year. Spring and early autumn bring mild weather and fewer visitors than the summer school holidays. A weekday is usually quieter than a Saturday or Sunday.
- Young children. Toddlers see the large animals from their seat without walking far, and free child seats for any age are fitted on request.
- Older children and adults. Keeper talks and feeding times fill the afternoon, so check the day’s programme when you arrive.
- Grandparents and less mobile guests. The car stays close all day, so anyone can rest between areas.
Woburn Abbey and its deer park sit a short drive away on the same estate. If you finish the animals early, your driver can take you there before heading back; Abbey entry is separate, so check its opening dates for your day. Going to Woburn in November or December 2026?
Book a morning pickup. From 25 October the park opens at 9:30am, takes its last entry at 3pm and closes at 4pm.
The park is closed on Monday 9 November 2026. From 12 November to 16 December it opens Thursday to Sunday only.
For the Christmas holidays, from 17 December to 4 January 2027, it opens daily except 24 to 26 December.
In poor light or bad weather the gates may close a little earlier. A pickup by 9am leaves time for two laps of the Road Safari before dusk.
Woburn Abbey ends its 2026 season on 31 October, so a winter day is for the animals alone. Choose your date on the park calendar, then book the car.
How far is Woburn Safari Park from London?
Woburn Safari Park is about 50 miles north of central London, at Ridgmont in Bedfordshire. By car it takes roughly 1 hour 15 minutes on a weekday morning and close to 1 hour 30 minutes in the afternoon rush.
- The route. Your driver heads north out of London on the M1 and leaves at Junction 13. The park gate on High Street, Ridgmont, is only a few minutes from the junction.
- The nearest safari to London. For a safari near London with big cats, Woburn is the closest park where a car drives past lions, tigers and bears. Other UK safari drives with big cats, such as those in Wiltshire and the West Midlands, are two to three hours or more from the city.
- Why you need a car. The Road Safari is seen only from a vehicle, and everyone stays inside it for the whole route. A private car with a driver means nobody in your group has to drive among the animals.
- Timing the day. The Road Safari entrance closes earlier than the park itself, so check the times for your date. A morning pickup leaves time for two laps, lunch and the Foot Safari before that cut-off.
Can our chauffeur drive us round the Road Safari?
Yes. The park asks every visitor to tour the Road Safari in a vehicle, and a chauffeur-driven Mercedes enters like any other car. The park also requires the person at the wheel to hold a full driving licence, which every Tripyana chauffeur does.
- Fixed roofs keep every area open. Soft tops and convertibles must skip the Kingdom of the Carnivores and the African Forest. Our E-Class, S-Class and V-Class all have fixed roofs, so both stay open to you.
- Bigger groups follow the same route. The park admits minibuses as well as cars, so the seven-seat V-Class drives the full circuit.
- Everyone stays inside. Windows, doors and sunroofs stay shut in the big cat and monkey areas, and nobody steps out anywhere on the route. If help is needed, your driver switches on the hazard lights, sounds the horn and waits for park staff.
- Slow and steady. A 15 mph limit applies across the park, on surfaced roads only, and cars keep moving without blocking any gate. Take your photos through the glass as you roll past.
- No pets. Dogs are not admitted and the park has no kennels, so plan this day without them.
- Mind the last lap. The Road Safari shuts one hour before the park closes, and every vehicle must be out by closing time.

Can wheelchair users and guests with limited mobility visit Woburn Safari Park?
Yes, and the Road Safari suits them best. The park says it works well for reduced mobility, because every animal is seen from your vehicle.
The Foot Safari is harder. The park describes naturally steep paths on gravel or grass. It does not hire out wheelchairs or scooters, so bring your own. A two-person Disabled and Carer ticket is sold with proof, such as a Blue Badge or a PIP letter.
Our cars have no ramp or lift. The passenger must be able to move onto the seat, with a helping hand if needed. A folding wheelchair or walker goes in the boot; tell us at booking with the luggage count.
The driver sets you down at the entrance where stopping is allowed. Child seats are free for all ages.
Can we add a VIP animal experience to our safari day?
Yes. The park runs guided VIP experiences alongside the drive-through route, and a private car makes them easy to fit in, because your driver plans the day around your slot.
What is on offer. The VIP Safari Off-Road Adventure is a guided tour of the animal reserves in a park Land Rover, 1 hour 15 minutes long. Shorter 30-minute up-close encounters cover lions, rhinos, camels, penguins and capybaras, and there are giraffe and elephant encounters too.
Book with the park first. Every VIP experience must be booked in advance with the park, subject to availability. It includes park admission for the people booked, on the date of the experience, and minimum ages vary from one experience to another. Keep one standard day ticket for your driver and the car.
Then book the car. Tell us your experience time when you book, and pick a departure that reaches the gate well ahead of it. Your Mercedes waits in the car park while you are with the keepers, then takes you round the reserves before or after.
Wheelchair users. Some VIP Land Rovers are not wheelchair accessible, so ask the park’s VIP team before you book.
Is Woburn Safari Park worth visiting in the rain?
Yes. The drive-through half of the day is the part rain changes least. On the drive you stay dry inside your Mercedes, and the park says its animals are used to British weather, with shelters along the route where you can still see them. Rhinos and monkeys often seem to enjoy a wet day.
On foot, pick the covered spots. The Reptile Ranch, the undercover Desert Springs walk-through with meerkats, mongooses and porcupines, and the sheltered viewing area at Monkey Mayhem all keep you out of the rain. Children can burn off energy in the Mammoth Play Ark, the indoor soft play, while the Safari Restaurant and Lookout Cafe serve a hot drink.
Weather and your booking. The park does not refund its tickets for bad weather. The car works differently: you can cancel it free of charge as late as a full day (24h) ahead of pickup, so look at the forecast the day before and decide. Between areas, dry seats are never far away.
