Which South Wales stops can you add to a Cardiff day?
Cardiff Castle and the Bay fill most days, but four more sights sit within easy reach. Choose one as a swap, and your driver shapes the timings around it.
- Caerphilly Castle. One of the largest medieval castles in Britain, ringed by moats and lakes, with a famous leaning tower. It sits a short drive north of the city.
- Castell Coch. A fairy-tale Victorian Gothic castle in the woods above Tongwynlais, rebuilt by the architect William Burges. It is compact, so it suits a shorter visit.
- St Fagans National Museum of History. An open-air museum of rebuilt Welsh cottages, farms and workshops. General entry is free, and children love the space to roam.
- Tintern Abbey and the Wye Valley. Roofless Cistercian abbey ruins beside the River Wye, a detour near Chepstow. Ask when you book and we confirm it fits the day.
Bath on the way home is possible on request. It makes a long day, so we check the timings with you before you book. To stay a night in Wales instead, the same driver stays with you at £100 per night, and the second day can take in the Brecon Beacons or the Gower coast.

Is a Cardiff day trip worth it in November and December?
Yes, and the city is at its liveliest. Cardiff's Winter Wonderland runs from 12 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. The ice rink sits in the castle grounds, with more festive attractions at City Hall.
Skating sessions must be booked online in advance, as no tickets are sold at the gate. Winter Wonderland is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
The Christmas market fills the streets around The Hayes from 12 November to 23 December. The Victorian and Edwardian shopping arcades are a few minutes away on foot.
The castle keeps shorter winter hours, with last entry at 4:00pm. It closes on 25 and 26 December and on 1 January. Your driver plans the castle for the morning and the market after lunch, before the drive home.

For most visitors, Cardiff: the castle, Cardiff Bay and the Senedd are about three hours away by car, so the whole day fits inside 12 hours. Tintern Abbey and the Wye Valley make a quieter choice on the same road. Snowdonia and North Wales are too far for one day and need the two-day tour.
Which car suits a family of five?
A Mercedes V-Class at £755 for the day. It seats seven with seven suitcases and has room for a pushchair. Child seats are fitted free on request. Couples usually take the E-Class; the S-Class and Range Rover are quoted on request.
Can we change the stops on the day?
Yes. Tell your driver and the plan changes with you. Caerphilly Castle, Castell Coch or St Fagans can replace the Bay afternoon. It costs nothing extra while the day stays inside 12 hours.
What if we want to stay later in Cardiff?
Tell the driver or add it when you book. Each hour after the twelfth is charged at the extra-hour rate for your car. Every started hour counts as a full hour. Dinner at Mermaid Quay before the drive home usually adds one or two hours.
Are entry tickets included?
No. The price covers the car, the chauffeur, fuel and parking. You buy entry tickets directly from each attraction, and we tell you which ones to book ahead. Meals are not included either.
How much is the Cardiff trip in US dollars?
About $920 for the Mercedes E-Class and $1,000 for the V-Class at today’s rate — estimates only. Fares are set and charged in pounds sterling, so your card issuer’s exchange rate on the day decides the exact dollar amount. The price covers the car, not each passenger.
Can I cancel, and how do I pay?
Yes. Cancel at least 24 hours before pickup and any card payment is refunded in full; inside 24 hours the fare is charged. Pay by card in the booking form when you book, or choose cash and settle with the driver in pounds sterling on the day.
Is a day trip to Cardiff from London worth it?
Yes, if you want a castle, a waterfront and Welsh culture in one day. With a private car the long drive is relaxed, and you still get several hours in the city. Stay overnight only if you also want the Gower coast or the mountains.
How much time do I need in Cardiff?
Five to six hours covers Cardiff Castle, lunch and a walk around Cardiff Bay. Add about two hours for a second sight such as Caerphilly Castle or St Fagans. Our 12-hour day fits this without rushing, and extra hours can be added.
