1. Departure from your hotel

   Your driver arrives at your London hotel entrance at the time you chose, between 8:00am and 12:00 noon.

2. Stonehenge

   Around two hours at the prehistoric circle on Salisbury Plain: the visitor centre, the shuttle to the stones and the slow walk around them. Check your ticket conditions and the opening hours for your visit date. Because the car and driver are yours alone, this works as a private Stonehenge tour from London rather than a coach stop: arrive when you choose and leave when you are ready.

3. The drive to Bath

   Under an hour across Wiltshire countryside — a natural moment for a rest before the second act of the day.

4. Bath

   The Roman Baths themselves, the sweep of the Royal Crescent, and Pulteney Bridge with its shops built over the river. Two to three hours covers the heart of the city, with time for a late lunch; Cardiff is 55 miles further west, a separate day trip to Cardiff and South Wales.

   Book the Roman Baths for a timed entry slot on the official website, about an hour after you leave Stonehenge. Plan on 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours for the Great Bath, the temple remains and the museum. Bath Abbey stands on the same square, so both fit one short walk.

5. Back to your hotel

   The longest leg home — around 2 hours 30 minutes. Your driver returns you to the same address you started from.

Best day and time to visit Stonehenge and Bath

The calmest visits fall on a weekday, near the start or the end of the opening day. Late morning to mid-afternoon is the busiest window at the stones. Summer weekends and UK school holidays are the fullest dates of the year.

Want a quieter stone circle as well? Avebury, a much larger circle you can walk among freely, lies about 40 minutes north of Stonehenge. Lacock, a National Trust village with a medieval abbey, is a short detour on the way to Bath. Either stop can be added on request, and any extra time is confirmed in writing before you book.

Castle Combe, a stone village in the southern Cotswolds, lies about half an hour from Bath near the M4. A short walk down its main street fits before the drive home. Bath Christmas Market 2026: a private day trip from London

Bath Christmas Market runs from Thursday 26 November to Sunday 13 December 2026. Your driver collects you in London, stops at Stonehenge on the way west and waits in Bath while you walk the chalets. The fare is the trip’s usual price for the car.

Can we see the Stonehenge winter solstice sunrise on a private trip from London?

Yes. On the solstice morning, English Heritage usually opens the stone circle free of charge around sunrise. In 2026 the solstice falls late on 21 December, so the gathering is expected at dawn on 22 December. English Heritage confirms the date and hours a few weeks ahead.

Sunrise comes just after 8am, and the site opens well before it. Your driver collects you in London in the early hours and drives west in the dark. Expect a cold, busy field, so bring warm layers and a torch.

Parking rules for the solstice are set each year. We check the 2026 rule once it is published and confirm in writing where your car parks.

Can we add Windsor Castle, go inside the stone circle, or swap Bath for Oxford, Salisbury or Winchester?

Yes. Every option keeps the same car and driver. The two Windsor routes are priced as a whole day in the table. The stone circle and spa options add extra hours, priced in the table. Every ticket is bought by you on the official site.

1. Windsor Castle on the way — Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath in one day

   Windsor sits on the M4, the same road west, about 50 minutes from central London in the morning. The castle opens at 10am, so it comes first. Allow ninety minutes for the State Apartments and St George’s Chapel, then drive on to the stones and Bath.

   The day grows to about twelve hours. In the booking form below, pick “Windsor, Stonehenge & Bath” as the route: £660 in the E-Class, with the other cars in the table. Windsor Castle closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for most of the year, so pick another day.

2. Windsor and Oxford instead of Bath — three stops, less driving

   Start at Windsor Castle at 10am, then Stonehenge after lunch. From the stones, the A34 runs north to Oxford in about 1 hour 30 minutes. That leaves an hour or two among the colleges before the drive home; our full Oxford day shows what fits.

   The day runs about eleven hours. Pick “Windsor, Stonehenge & Oxford” as the route when you book: £605 in the E-Class. The Tuesday and Wednesday castle closing applies here too.

3. Stonehenge inner circle tour — the Stone Circle Experience, inside the stones before or after public hours

   English Heritage runs one-hour guided sessions inside the circle, in the early morning or the evening. Each session takes at most 52 people, split into two groups of 26. Day visitors otherwise view the stones from a rope line. There are no sessions in October or November; dates are on sale to March 2027 and go quickly.

   A morning session means leaving London before dawn; an evening session brings you back late. Either way, allow about one extra hour beyond the ten-hour day. The pickup falls outside the booking-form window, so ask for a fixed quote through the contact page. We confirm the pickup time and the total in writing.

4. Thermae Bath Spa — two hours in Britain’s original natural thermal spa

   The Thermae Welcome session lasts two hours and includes towel and robe, the open-air rooftop pool and the Minerva Bath. The spa is adults only (16+) and opens 9:00am to 9:30pm. Pre-booked places are limited and walk-in entry runs as a virtual queue. Reserve your slot online and tell us the time.

   Choose one or two extra hours in the booking form; the driver waits at an agreed point in Bath. The Roman Baths still fit the same afternoon if you book the spa for the later slot.

5. Stonehenge only — a shorter Stonehenge day trip from London

   Only want the stones? Ask for Stonehenge only. The plan stays simple: your own car and driver, around two hours for the exhibition, the Neolithic houses and the walk around the circle, then the drive straight back to your hotel. It is the lightest version of the day, and it suits young children, a jet-lagged first morning or a theatre booking in London that evening.

   With Bath out of the plan there is room for one more stop. Salisbury Cathedral sits about 25 minutes from the stones, with Britain’s tallest spire and an original 1215 Magna Carta, and the fare does not change.

   Book the usual route and write “Stonehenge only” in the booking notes. The price stays as booked; a shorter day is not discounted.

6. Bath on its own — a Bath day trip from London, without Stonehenge

   Would you rather skip the stones and give Bath the full day? Ask for Bath only. The driver heads straight west on the M4, roughly 2 hours 30 minutes each way, so an 8:30am pickup puts you in the city by about 11am, with around five hours to explore.

   That leaves time for more than the Roman Baths and the Abbey. Walk up to the Circus and No. 1 Royal Crescent, a Georgian town house kept as a museum, then on to the Jane Austen Centre and the Holburne Museum on the far side of the river. Lunch can be unhurried, or keep two hours for Thermae Bath Spa.

   Book the Stonehenge & Bath route as usual and write “Bath only” in the booking notes, or tell us when you reply to your confirmation. The fare is the same; a day without Stonehenge is not discounted.

7. Salisbury or Winchester instead of Bath — same fare, shorter day

   Salisbury Cathedral is 19 km from the stones, about 25 minutes by car. It holds Britain’s tallest spire and an original 1215 Magna Carta, and opens Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 5pm. Winchester Cathedral is 55 km away on the road home, about 45 minutes. It is over 900 years old, hosts the Kings and Scribes exhibition, and opens Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm.

   Either swap saves roughly an hour of driving and the fare stays as shown; a shorter day is not discounted. Book the trip as normal and name the swap in a reply to your confirmation email. Stonehenge and Bath with limited mobility

English Heritage lends standard and all-terrain wheelchairs at the Stonehenge visitor centre, first come, first served. The shuttle to the stones has a ramp and takes one wheelchair or small scooter per trip. Paths are tarmac and grass, so rain makes them harder going.

In Bath, the streets around the Abbey and the Roman Baths are fairly level. The walk up to the Royal Crescent is steep, so your driver can set you down at the top. Mention a folding wheelchair or walker as you book.
