Who books a chauffeur from London to Birmingham?
Four groups make up most of our Birmingham bookings. Each needs a different shape of journey: one way, a car that waits, or a full day.
NEC exhibitors and business travellers
Door-to-door from a London hotel to the NEC, Resorts World or a city office, with two quiet hours to work.
Families and groups
One fare for the whole car: up to 7 people and 7 cases in the V-Class. Child seats fitted on request; shopping bags ride in the boot.
Students
Term-time moves to the University of Birmingham or Aston with suitcases, boxes and a full boot; no per-bag charge.
Medical and family visits
Direct and on time for a hospital appointment or a relative’s care home; the chauffeur waits for the return leg.
How long does the drive to Birmingham take?
Two to two and a half hours for about 120 miles (190 km), depending on where in London you start. The chauffeur checks live traffic before pickup and picks the clearer motorway.
| Route | Distance | Typical time by car |
|---|---|---|
| Central London → Birmingham centre via the M40 | ≈ 120 mi / 190 km | 2 h – 2 h 30 |
| Central London → Birmingham centre via the M1 and M6 | ≈ 120 mi / 190 km | 2 h – 2 h 30 |
| Heathrow → Birmingham (M40, M42) | ≈ 100 mi / 160 km | about 2 h |
| Birmingham centre → NEC / Birmingham Airport | ≈ 10 mi | about 20 min |
The M40 passes Bicester Village and the Warwick exit before the M42. The M1 and M6 are the northern option when the M40 is slow.
Both times are door-to-door. The chauffeur meets you at your address, your luggage goes straight into the boot, and the car stops at the hotel entrance, the NEC or the terminal.

Should I book one way, wait-and-return, or a full day?
One way for a simple transfer, wait-and-return for an event or meeting, a full day for eight hours or more.
One way
Any London address to any Birmingham address, the NEC or BHX. One fixed figure from the vehicle and the route, with the total on screen before you enter a card.
Wait-and-return
The chauffeur drives you up, waits through your event and brings you home the same day. Quoted per itinerary: tell us the date and the hours between the legs.
Request a return quoteFull day
Eight hours of car and chauffeur, with stops wherever you choose. Extra hours are added at the hourly rate; every started hour counts as a full hour. Longer engagements run through chauffeur-driven car hire in London.
Can we stop on the way to Birmingham?
Yes. On a wait-and-return or full-day booking, stops within the booked hours cost nothing extra. On a one-way transfer, a short stop is added when you book. Four are worth planning around.
- Bicester VillageM40 junction 9, about an hour and a quarter from central London. Bags stay in the car; the full shopping-day format is on our Bicester Village private car page.
- Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avonoff the M40, 20 to 25 miles short of Birmingham. Book castle tickets online beforehand; we drop you at the gate and wait.
- Cadbury World, Bournvilleabout 4 miles south of the centre, before or after a Bullring afternoon.
- In the citythe Bullring, the Jewellery Quarter, the Library of Birmingham and Gas Street Basin. All sit within 10 minutes of each other by car.

Do you cover Birmingham Airport (BHX) and the NEC?
Yes. Birmingham Airport and the NEC share one site about 10 miles east of the centre, off the M42. Both are priced as ordinary destinations in either direction.
Heathrow to Birmingham is about 100 miles. The chauffeur meets you inside arrivals with a name board and tracks the flight. Waiting is free for 60 minutes after landing, so a delay moves the pickup rather than adding a charge. The same standard applies on our Heathrow airport transfer page.
Landing at BHX and heading to London works the same way in reverse. For an escort through immigration and baggage, add Meet and Assist at London airports when you book.

What should I know before booking?
Three things decide a smooth day: the right car for your luggage, seats for the children, and a sensible departure time.
Luggage
E-Class: 3 passengers and 3 cases. Mercedes V-Class: 7 passengers and 7 cases, the usual choice for families and student moves. S-Class and Range Rover capacities are on the fleet cards below.
Child seats
Infant, toddler and booster seats are fitted free on request. Give each child’s age in the booking notes and the seat is in the car on arrival.
Timing and weather
Leaving London before 07:00 or after 10:00 avoids the worst of the M25 and M40 peaks. Rain, roadworks or a slow M6 never change a fixed fare.

How does the fixed fare work?
The fare is calculated from the vehicle and the route and displayed as one figure before you enter card details. It never changes with traffic, the time of day or a late finish. A London to Birmingham chauffeur is priced per car, not per seat.
- The chauffeur, the car and the fuel for the whole journey.
- Motorway tolls, parking at stops, the London congestion charge and the ULEZ charge.
- 60 minutes of free waiting after landing at Heathrow or BHX, and flight tracking.
- No VAT added, no booking fee and no card surcharge on top of the quoted figure.
For scale, these are the day rates the same form uses for eight hours. A one-way Birmingham transfer costs less than the day rate for the same car.

Frequently asked questions about a Birmingham chauffeur
How far is Birmingham from London by car?
About 120 miles (190 km) by road, which takes 2 to 2½ hours in normal traffic. The M40 route runs through Oxfordshire and Warwickshire. The M1/M6 route is the alternative when the M40 is congested. Heathrow to Birmingham is shorter, at roughly 100 miles.
How much does a chauffeur from London to Birmingham cost?
The exact fare depends on the vehicle, the direction and whether the car waits. The online form calculates it for your addresses before you pay. For scale, the same form charges £370 for a full eight-hour day in the E-Class. A one-way transfer costs less than that day rate.
Can we do London to Birmingham and back in a day?
Yes. Leaving London at 08:00 puts you in Birmingham by about 10:30. That leaves five or six hours for the NEC, a meeting or the Bullring, with a return by early evening. Book it as wait-and-return and the chauffeur stays with the car throughout.
How does the price work for a family or a group?
The fare covers the whole car, not each seat. A V-Class carries 7 passengers and 7 cases for one figure, door to door, with fuel, parking and tolls included. The online form shows the total for your addresses before you pay, and it stays the same whether one person travels or seven.
Do you pick up from Birmingham Airport and the NEC?
Yes, in both directions. BHX and the NEC sit on one site about 10 miles east of the centre. Both are ordinary destinations in the online form. Flights landing at BHX or Heathrow are tracked, with 60 minutes of free waiting after touchdown.
Can I change or cancel a Birmingham booking?
Yes. You can cancel free of charge until 24 hours before the pickup time. A change of time or address inside that window is made by replying to the confirmation email. Child seats and extra stops can be added at the same point.
