The journey: Southampton cruise port transfers from Heathrow and London

Heathrow to Southampton is around 70 miles, usually 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes door-to-door depending on traffic. Your chauffeur drops you at your ship’s specific berth, not just the port gate.

How to get from Heathrow to Southampton cruise terminal

Your chauffeur checks your flight, waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal holding a name board, and loads the cases. If boarding time is tight, fast track at Heathrow arrivals shortens the passport queue before you reach the car. The route is the M25, M3 and M27 to the Port of Southampton, straight through the dock gate that serves your ship.

The port has five cruise terminals in two dock areas, and the drop-off point depends on which one your ship uses:

• Ocean Cruise Terminal and QEII Cruise Terminal — Eastern Docks, Dock Gate 4
• City Cruise Terminal and Horizon Cruise Terminal — Western Docks, Dock Gate 10

The berth is set for each sailing, not fixed to a cruise line, and the port publishes its ship schedule as provisional. So we plan from your ship name and sailing date, not the cruise line alone. Send both at booking and we confirm the terminal and the dock gate with you before sailing day. If the berth moves, the drop-off moves with it, and the fare stays the same because one fixed price covers every terminal in the port.

At the terminal, the bag drop is outside the building. Your chauffeur pulls into the passenger drop-off area and unloads your cases at the bag drop, where the porters take over. You then walk inside to check in and clear security carrying only hand luggage and travel documents.

Southampton cruise terminal transfer from central London

Starting from a London hotel instead of the airport? The fare from London to Southampton cruise port matches the Heathrow figure exactly. Pickups inside our central London zone — Mayfair, Soho, Marylebone, Paddington, Bayswater, Kensington, Knightsbridge, Chelsea, Belgravia, Victoria and Westminster — are priced flat per car, with the chauffeur waiting at the hotel door. Expect around 80 miles and 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes, depending on traffic leaving London.

Addresses outside the zone — the City, Covent Garden, Bloomsbury or a home further out — are priced by distance: type the address into the form and the exact price shows at step two. As a guide, the Strand to Ocean Cruise Terminal comes to about £315 in the E-Class.

Leaving your London hotel on embarkation day

Southampton terminals check passengers in by staggered arrival slots, and the time printed on your boarding pass is the one that counts. The port’s visitor guidance asks guests to arrive at that time and no more than 15 to 30 minutes before it, so an early start is not always the better plan. We set the pickup by working back from your slot: the road time from a hotel in the zone above, plus a margin for traffic on the way out of town. For a 12:30 slot, that usually means leaving between 09:30 and 10:00.

Check out before the car arrives and have every case waiting in the lobby. The chauffeur loads the boot at the entrance, and the next time you handle the luggage is at the cruise bag drop. A couple travelling with a pair of big suitcases fits the E-Class; three travellers, or more cases than that, suit the seven-case V-Class better. Timed around your cruise

Share your flight number, ship name, cruise terminal and final boarding time when booking. Allow time for immigration and baggage collection before the drive, plus cruise check-in on arrival; with a landing before about 10:00 you can add a two-hour Stonehenge stop on the way to the ship. If the connection is tight, contact us before paying; flight tracking does not guarantee you will reach the ship before boarding closes.

From the ship back to your London hotel

Ending the cruise with a few nights in London? The drive from your Southampton terminal to a hotel in central London is a fixed price per car, in either Mercedes, agreed before you travel. When booking, reverse the route with the swap control so the terminal becomes the pickup and your hotel the destination, and the form shows the fare.

Each terminal has a short-stay pick-up zone close to its entrance, meant for collecting passengers rather than long waits. So instead of arriving early and queuing at the barrier, your chauffeur times the car to the moment you clear the luggage hall. Once you know what time you leave the ship, message it to us together with the vessel’s name, and the pickup moves to match. There is no left-luggage room inside the terminals, so plan to walk straight from baggage reclaim to your chauffeur.

Is Gatwick to Southampton cruise terminal a fixed price too?

Yes. Gatwick to any Southampton cruise terminal is a fixed fare in either direction, from the North or South Terminal. The price is per car, not per passenger. The drive is about 75 miles and takes roughly 1 hour 55 minutes in normal traffic.

Do you also drive to Portsmouth, Harwich and Tilbury cruise terminals?

Yes. These three ports are priced by road distance rather than a flat rule. The table gives a starting figure per car.

Tilbury (London International Cruise Terminal, RM18 7EH) is the closest of the three to London. Portsmouth International Port (PO2 8SP) is on the south coast and Harwich International (CO12 4SR) on the Essex coast.

Figures are one way per car, calculated with the booking form’s distance rates from October 2026. Pickups were a weekday morning from Terminal 5 and from Gatwick South. A name-board greeting, flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting are included, exactly as on the Southampton route.

Groups of five to seven with cruise luggage

Booking a car service for a family or a group of friends sailing together? One Mercedes V-Class usually covers it. It seats seven passengers and takes seven large cases, and the fare is per vehicle, so the whole party shares one fixed price whether five or seven of you travel.

Count the cases before you count the seats. Seven travellers with one large case each fit well. Five travellers with two large cases each do not: that is ten cases for a seven-case load. In that case add a Mercedes E-Class beside the V-Class, each at its own fixed fare, and the two cars travel together from Heathrow or your hotel to the port.

Hand luggage, a folded pushchair and child seats take space too, so list them in the booking notes. Your chauffeur then plans the load before the day, and nothing is left at the kerb.

Travelling to Southampton as a group of eight or more?

For eight or more travellers, ask us for a quote for two vehicles or a Sprinter minibus. Send the number of passengers, the number of large cases and your ship name.

Two cars can leave Heathrow or your hotel together and arrive at the same terminal door. Each chauffeur meets the group in arrivals, loads the cases and tracks the same flight.

Do you provide child seats for the drive to the ship?

Yes. Child seats are free, and we fit one for any age, from babies to older children who need a booster.

Tell us each child’s age when you book, so the right seat is already fitted when the car arrives. Every child seat uses one passenger seat, so count children in the total.

A family of five with cruise cases usually fits best in the seven-seat V-Class. It leaves room for the child seats and the large cases.

Mention a pushchair or travel cot at booking as well. The same seats can stay booked for the return leg after the cruise. Add them when you book the drive back from the port.

What time should your flight land for a same-day sailing?

Work backwards from the all-aboard time in your cruise documents, not the departure time on the ticket. Many lines close boarding 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes before the ship leaves, so a 16:00 departure can mean the gangway shuts at 14:30.

From touchdown, plan about 1 hour 15 minutes to clear the eGates, collect your cases and reach the car. A slow baggage belt can add another half hour. The road to the docks then takes around two hours, and longer on a busy summer Saturday when several ships change passengers on the same morning.

For that 16:00 sailing, landing by 09:00 leaves a comfortable margin for traffic and a slow passport queue. A 10:30 landing still works, but with little slack. Land at noon and the car reaches the port around 15:15, too late for that ship, though the same timing suits a sailing at 17:00 or later.

Overnight flights from the US mostly land in the early morning, which fits a same-day sailing well. If yours lands after about 11:00, or connects through another European hub, flying in the day before is the safer plan.
