How much does a chauffeur cost per hour in London?

Hourly hire is the right structure when the day has no fixed shape: three addresses in Mayfair, a school run and a dinner, or a shopping route where nobody knows how long the second stop will take. You are buying the car for a window of time, so a change of plan inside that window costs nothing extra.
How much does a personal driver cost in London?
A personal driver, a private driver and a chauffeur are the same job in London, and they are priced the same way. Hourly hire begins at a four-hour minimum of £230; eight hours is one figure per car, shown in the rate table above. Larger vehicles cost more than the E-Class.
Two things surprise people searching for a personal driver. The price is per car, not per person, so four passengers pay what one pays. And no separate fee for the driver sits on top — the car, the fuel and the waiting time are all inside that one figure.
For a personal driver several days a week, or full time for a season, the whole block is quoted as one figure rather than a standing rate card, because the total turns on the hours, the car and the dates.
What does a full day with a chauffeur cost?
A full day is eight hours at one figure per car, in the table above. Up to about eight hours the hourly rate is usually the cheaper structure; past that point the day rate is, because it stops the clock.
Hours beyond the eighth are added at the car’s normal hourly rate rather than at an overtime penalty. If your day is likely to run to ten hours, say so when you book and the whole thing is quoted in one figure. Longer engagements are arranged through chauffeur-driven car hire in London.
How much is a chauffeur from Heathrow, Gatwick or a cruise port?
Airport and port journeys are not priced by the hour at all. Each named route carries one fixed figure in each direction, agreed before the car moves. Heathrow to central London carries one such figure per car class, and the same trip at 2am on a bank holiday costs exactly that. The fixed price includes 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing, a chauffeur inside the terminal with a name board, and flight tracking that moves the pickup when the aircraft is late. A delayed flight is not a surcharge.

What does a chauffeur cost outside London?
Distance replaces time as the driver of the price. Three routes are quoted as fixed figures rather than by the hour, because the return leg is unavoidable and the mileage is known before anyone sets off.
Southampton cruise port

Manchester, full day
£870 to £1,230 for the whole day including the return. Any hour past the ninth is added at the car’s hourly rate.
What is included in a chauffeur’s price?
Everything that would normally appear as an extra line on an invoice. A London chauffeur rate is an all-inclusive final figure, and the list below is what it covers before you are asked to pay anything.

What changes the price of a chauffeur?
Four things, and the time of day is not one of them. There is no night tariff, no weekend tariff and no surge multiplier on any of the rates above.

The single biggest factor: the gap between the E-Class and the Range Rover is the widest single step in the table above.
How long you book
Four hours is the minimum. Eight hours costs less per hour than four, which is why long days are booked as a day.

Mileage inside London is already in the price. Ports and other cities are quoted as named fixed routes instead.
Waiting beyond the allowance
On a transfer, waiting past the free 60 minutes is charged at the car’s hourly rate, not at a penalty rate.
Is a chauffeur more expensive than a metered taxi?
Not always, and the two are not priced the same way. A London black cab runs on a meter: Transport for London’s published tariff is £4.13 a mile between 05:00 and 20:00 on weekdays, rising to £5.29 overnight and on public holidays, with a £4.40 minimum fare. The meter keeps running while the car is stationary in traffic.
A chauffeur transfer is quoted once and does not move. The Heathrow fare above stands whether the M4 is clear or closed, and the driver is waiting in arrivals rather than at the front of a rank. Do chauffeur prices rise at night or in heavy traffic?
No. There is no night tariff, no weekend rate and no surge multiplier. A Heathrow transfer costs the same at three in the afternoon as at three in the morning. Because the figure is fixed rather than metered, time spent stationary in traffic costs you nothing extra.
What is not included in a chauffeur’s quoted price?
Two things only: waiting beyond the free 60 minutes at an airport, which is added at the car’s hourly rate, and hours past the eighth of a full-day booking. Fuel, the congestion charge, the ULEZ charge, flight tracking and the meet-and-greet board are all inside the quoted figure.
How far ahead should I book, and can I cancel?

Is a personal driver the same as a chauffeur?
In London, yes. Personal driver, private driver and chauffeur all describe one licensed job: a professional who drives your own itinerary in a private-hire car rather than picking up fares from the street. The word you use changes; the licence, the car and the price do not.
Is the price per car or per passenger?

There is no published weekly or monthly price, because the total turns on how many days, which vehicle and which dates.
