How does a day at Legoland or Thorpe Park from London work?
Your chauffeur collects the family at the hotel, waits at the park and drives you back. Here is a Legoland day; the other three parks follow the same plan.
A Legoland day from a central London hotel
- 09:00 Pickup at your hotel door, child seats already fitted and the pushchair in the boot.
- 10:00 At the Legoland entrance as the gates open.
- 10:00–16:00 The park is yours; the car waits in the resort car park.
- 16:00 Out of the park and back in the car at the gate.
- 17:00 Back at the hotel, 8 hours door to door.
Theme park, zoo and aquarium
The same 09:00 pickup gives you the longest day in the park, because the drive is the shortest of the four.
Big rides and a later finish
For an evening at the park, pick a later pickup time in the booking form and add extra hours, so the car is there when the rides close.
The longest drive
Paultons Park is further away, so the 8 hours give about 4 hours 30 minutes in the park. Add one or two extra hours for a slower day.
How much is a private car to Legoland, Thorpe Park or Chessington?
One fixed price per car for the 8-hour day, shown before you pay. It depends on the park and the car, never on the number of passengers.

Peppa Pig World for the under-fives, Legoland up to about twelve, Chessington for mixed ages and Thorpe Park for teenagers.
- Peppa Pig World — a themed land inside Paultons Park for toddlers and pre-schoolers, with the rest of the park for older brothers and sisters.
- Legoland Windsor — LEGO-themed rides, shows and building areas.
- Chessington — a theme park, a zoo and a SEA LIFE aquarium on one ticket, the easy choice when the children’s ages are far apart.

How far is each park from London, and where does the driver wait?
None of the four parks is in London itself: they are in Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire.

- Legoland Windsor, SL4 4AY about 25 miles west of central London, about 1 hour by car. The driver sets you down at the resort drop-off point, then parks in the main car park. Windsor Castle is two miles away; our Windsor Castle day trip covers the town.
- Thorpe Park, KT16 8PN about 24 miles south-west, near Chertsey in Surrey, about 1 hour. The park’s drop-and-collect area by the entrance is free for 30 minutes, so the car pulls up close to the gate at both ends of the day.
- Chessington, KT9 2NE about 16 miles south-west, about 45 minutes. The main car park is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Explorer Gate; the driver sets you down as close as the park allows.
- Paultons Park, SO51 6AL about 83 miles, near Romsey in Hampshire, about 1 hour 45 minutes. Parking at Paultons is free.
Times are for a weekday morning; school-holiday traffic can add 20 to 30 minutes. From Heathrow, Legoland is about 20 minutes and Thorpe Park about 15, so an arrival-day visit is easy to plan.
When are the parks open, and when do they close for winter?
The main season at all four parks runs from spring through October, with gates opening at 10:00 on most dates. Each park publishes its hours for every date on its own calendar; check yours before you book.
- Legoland Windsor: the main season ends around the end of October, then the park opens on selected Christmas dates from late November to early January. It is closed for the rest of January.
- Thorpe Park: closes for the winter after its October Halloween event, Fright Nights, and reopens in spring. On Fright Nights dates the park stays open until 21:00.
- Chessington: Howl’o’ween runs in October; the Christmas Village opens on selected dates from late November to 24 December, and the park opens again on selected dates from 27 December to early January.
- Paultons Park: opens on selected December dates up to early January, with rides closing at 16:30 in December, then closes until the new season.
What should we know before a theme park day?
Buy the park tickets first, then book the car for the same date.
- Arrive for opening: queues are shortest in the first hour. Start with the rides at the far end of the park while most families stop near the entrance.
- Pick a term-time weekday: weekends, bank holidays and school holidays bring the longest queues; each park marks its busy dates on its calendar.
- Queue-jump passes: Legoland, Thorpe Park and Chessington sell paid ride passes on their own websites; add them with the tickets.
- Measure the children: every ride has its own height rule, printed on the park’s website. A child just under a limit is happier knowing before the day.
- Eat off-peak: lunch before noon or after 14:00, and ride while other families eat.
- Rain: Legoland, Chessington and Thorpe Park are mostly outdoors; pack waterproofs.

Questions about theme park days from London
Is Thorpe Park in London?
No. Thorpe Park is near Chertsey in Surrey, just outside Greater London, about 24 miles south-west of the centre and about 1 hour from a central hotel by car.
When do Thorpe Park, Legoland and Chessington close for winter?
Thorpe Park closes after Fright Nights at the end of October and reopens in spring. Legoland and Chessington open on selected Christmas dates into early January, then close for the rest of January.
What age is Legoland Windsor for?
Legoland Windsor is designed for families with children aged 2 to 12, with plenty for adults too. Many rides have no minimum height, and the highest minimum on any ride is 1.2 metres.
Is parking included in the price?
Yes. The park car park, fuel and road tolls are all in our price, so you pay nothing on the day, even at Legoland and Chessington, where parking is charged.
Does the driver stay at the park all day?
Yes. The driver waits in the park’s car park until you leave, with no fixed return time inside your booked hours. Message the driver from the exit and the car meets you at the entrance.
What if we want more than 8 hours, or to stay until closing?
Add extra hours in the form when you book: £55 an hour in the E‑Class and £60 in the V‑Class. A later pickup plus extra hours keeps the car until closing. A shorter day does not lower the price.
Can we bring a pushchair, and are child seats included?
Yes, free. Write the children’s ages in the booking notes and the right seats are fitted before pickup. A folded pushchair goes in the boot; for one that does not fold, or two, choose the V‑Class.
Can we combine Legoland with Windsor Castle in one day?
Yes, at the Legoland day price. A castle morning and a Legoland afternoon fit the 8 hours with a 09:00 pickup; write both stops in the booking notes.
Can we stay overnight at a park hotel?
Yes. Legoland, Chessington and Thorpe Park each have hotels on site. Book the first day in the form with your luggage in the notes, then ask the assistant to add the collection on the second day.
Can I cancel, and how do I pay?
Yes. Cancel at least 24 hours before pickup and a card payment is refunded in full; inside 24 hours the fare is charged. Pay when you book by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or pay the driver on the day by card or in cash.
One price for the whole car, hotel to park gate and back.
