What should you know before visiting Versailles?
A few choices made before the day save the most time. Your chauffeur handles the roads and the parking.
- The palace is closed on Mondays
Choose Tuesday to Sunday. Tuesday and the weekend are the busiest days.
- Book a 9:00 entry
The first slot of the day is the quietest. We plan your pickup around the time on your ticket.
- Check the fountain days
The musical fountain shows run every Saturday and Sunday from April to the start of November, and on Tuesdays in May and June.
- Wear comfortable shoes
The gardens alone are vast. Your chauffeur can meet you at a second gate to save the walk back.
Which ticket do you need for the Trianon and Marie-Antoinette’s Estate?
A palace ticket covers the State Apartments. To see the Trianon side as well, choose the Passport, the single ticket for the whole estate.
- The Passport covers the whole estate
It includes the palace, the gardens, the Grand Trianon, the Petit Trianon and the Queen’s Hamlet. Only the palace visit needs a timed slot.
- Plan the Trianon after lunch
The Trianon estate opens at noon, so see the palace in the morning and cross the park in the afternoon. Entry to the Petit Trianon and the Hamlet is currently through the Grand Trianon.
- Ride the little train between sites
It links the North Terrace of the palace, the Petit Trianon, the Grand Trianon and the top of the Grand Canal. It runs daily except Mondays, and you can hop off at any stop on one circuit.
- Garden entry depends on the day
From April to October the gardens need a ticket from Tuesday to Sunday, when the fountain shows or the Musical Gardens are on, and the Passport includes that entry. On Mondays, and through the winter, the park and gardens are free and open even though the palace itself shuts.
Is Versailles a good day trip from Paris with kids?
Yes, if you keep the palace rooms short and give the children time outdoors. With the car close by, a tired child is never far from a seat.
- Book a free ticket for every child
Palace and Trianon entry is free for visitors under 18. Each child still needs a free ticket, booked online for the same entry slot as you.
- Bring a baby carrier
The palace strongly recommends carriers indoors. Pushchairs are tolerated in the palace for now, and they are welcome in the gardens and the park.
- Use the children’s tours in the app
The official Versailles app includes tours made for young visitors, an easy way to keep them curious in the State Apartments.
- Save the gardens for last
Keep the palace rooms short, then let the children run in the gardens. Child seats are fitted free of charge on request, ready at pickup.
