What Happens on the Day?

What Has Changed for Heathrow Fast Track in 2026?
Security at Heathrow is quicker in 2026. In January 2026 Heathrow finished replacing the passenger security lanes in all four terminals with CT scanners, so you no longer take liquids or electronics out of your hand luggage. Liquids in containers of up to 2 litres can stay in your cabin bag.
Fast Track Security at Heathrow
Fast Track security is a separate, shorter lane at the same checkpoint. You pass through the same scanners, just with fewer people ahead of you. Some travellers call it a Heathrow fast pass; it is the same priority lane.

Which Heathrow Terminals Have Fast Track?

Fast Track Heathrow Terminal 5
With fast track Heathrow terminal 5, your greeter:

Terminal 5 is British Airways’ home terminal at Heathrow, with more than 300 BA departures a day. It has three buildings:
- T5A — the main building, with check-in, security and the A gates.
- T5B and T5C — two satellite buildings for the B and C gates.
- The transit train — an underground shuttle that takes about 45 seconds to T5B and just under 90 seconds to T5C.
If your gate is in T5B or T5C, allow extra time after security for the transit.
Landing at Terminal 5. Your greeter meets you at the aircraft door. If your flight arrives at a T5B or T5C gate, you take the short transit train to the main building together, then go through the Fast Track lane at passport control, collect your bags and walk out to arrivals, where your chauffeur is waiting if you added a transfer.
Terminal 2 Fast Track Heathrow
Heathrow calls Terminal 2 “the Queen’s Terminal”. With fast track Heathrow terminal 2, your greeter takes you through the security lane on departure, or the immigration lane on arrival.
Fast Track Heathrow Terminal 3

How Does Fast Track Work for Arrivals at Heathrow?
Immigration checks at Heathrow happen only when you arrive; there are no UK Border immigration desks when you leave. When you land at Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5, your greeter meets you as you leave the aircraft. You then use fast track Heathrow immigration and skip the main UK Border queue.

Fast Track Arrivals vs Fast Track Security at LHR, terminal by terminal
LHR Fast Track is two separate services, booked separately. Fast Track Security is for departing passengers only: a dedicated lane through the security checkpoint after check-in. Fast Track Arrivals is a dedicated lane through immigration after you land.
Heathrow Fast Track Arrivals (passport control)
- Open at all four terminals to every passenger, whatever the airline, passport or cabin class.
- You choose a one-hour arrival window, bookable up to one hour before your scheduled landing. Infants and children need their own booking.
- Heathrow fast track immigration saves the most time if you cannot use the eGates.
Fast Track Security (departures)
- You also pick a one-hour window, in advance or on the day you fly.
- After check-in, follow the signs to the Fast Track entrance in your departure terminal and show your booking and boarding pass to the host.
Terminal by terminal
Both lanes run from 06:00 to 21:00 in T2, T3, T4 and T5, and arrivals slots cost more in each terminal’s busiest hours, which are shown when you book. At Terminal 5 the peak arrivals window is only 06:00 to 09:00, so a later landing falls in the off-peak band. At Terminal 2 the busy hours are 06:00 to 09:00 and 18:00 to 21:00, so a midday arrival is the cheaper slot. At Terminal 3 peak pricing covers the early morning and then 14:00 to 21:00, so a late-morning landing usually falls in the off-peak band too. At Terminal 4 only 09:00 to 12:00 is off-peak; the rest of the day between 06:00 and 21:00 counts as peak. For departures, check in first, follow the signs to the Fast Track entrance and show your booking confirmation email and boarding pass to the host. Terminal 5 Fast Track gets you through security quickly, but allow time afterwards for the airside shuttle if your gate is in T5B or T5C.
If you book London Heathrow fast track yourself, an arrivals slot can be changed or cancelled until 20:00 the day before, and a security slot up to two hours before your booked time.

Can You Buy Heathrow Fast Track at the Airport?
No. Heathrow sells Fast Track Arrivals online only, and it can’t be booked or paid for at the airport. You can book it from up to six months before you travel until one hour before your scheduled landing, with up to six passengers, adults and children, on one booking. Heathrow notes it is especially useful if you aren’t eligible to use the UK eGates.
So if you land without a slot, there is no desk at passport control where you can pay to switch lanes. Decide before you fly.

Can Children Use the eGates at Heathrow?
Since 8 July 2026, children aged 8 and 9 can use the UK eGates. They must be at least 120cm tall, hold an eligible biometric passport and travel with an adult. Children aged 10 and over could already use them.
Younger or shorter children cannot use the gates. A family with a small child therefore usually queues together at the staffed passport desks. After a long flight, with tired children and cabin bags, this is often the slowest part of arriving.
