How the day runs

How does a Regatta day with a private driver work?

You leave London mid-morning and the chauffeur drops you beside the town centre. The car waits until the last race. Henley-on-Thames is 36 miles from Mayfair: about an hour on a normal day, longer once the Regatta one-way system is running.

Finals Sunday

Later start, earlier finish

Sunday racing runs 10:50 to 16:30 with the Enclosures open from 10:00. Prizegiving follows from 17:00, so a 10:00 pickup and a 19:00 return fit the package.

Landing that morning

Heathrow to Henley, 23 miles

The chauffeur meets you in arrivals with a name board and drives west along the M4. Your luggage stays in the car all day and comes on to your hotel in the evening.

Henley Bridge and the tower of St Mary's church on the Thames at Henley-on-Thames, home of the Royal Regatta

The course is 1 mile 550 yards of the Thames, from Temple Island up to Poplar Point below Henley Bridge. The Stewards’ and Regatta Enclosures sit on the Berkshire bank, within walking distance of the town.

Racing runs Tuesday to Sunday: Tuesday from 09:30, Wednesday to Saturday from 09:00, each day finishing between 19:00 and 19:40 except the Sunday finals.

Dates and booking

When is Henley Royal Regatta 2027, and when should we book the car?

The 2027 Regatta runs from Tuesday 29 June to Sunday 4 July 2027, six days of racing. Tickets go on sale in spring 2027 on the Regatta’s own site. Book the car once your day is fixed: cars are allocated in order of booking.

  • Regatta Enclosure:open to the public; anyone can buy a ticket, and children under 14 enter free with an adult. No formal dress code.
  • Stewards’ Enclosure:members and their guests only, with a strict dress code: skirts and dresses below the knee, jackets and ties for men, no jeans or shorts. Hats are customary.
  • Tickets and hospitality:bought by you from the Regatta or its official hospitality partner. We do the car, the waiting and the return; we do not sell tickets.
  • Two or more days:each day is its own 8-hour package with its own price; we keep the same chauffeur where the rota allows.

What the price includes

What is included in the price of the Regatta day?

The car, the chauffeur and every road cost, in one figure agreed by email before the day. Nothing is paid in Henley.

Door-to-door pickup

Any London hotel, apartment or airport terminal, at the time you choose; a second address on the way costs nothing.

Fuel, tolls and parking

All mileage and the chauffeur’s parking near Henley are ours; nothing to pay on the day.

The car waits all day

Six or seven hours at Henley while the car sits parked; no meter runs inside the package.

Bags stay in the car

The Regatta Enclosure admits only small bags and the Stewards’ left luggage is limited; in your own car nothing needs to come in.

Hats, heels and a spare pair

Change shoes in the car for the walk; the chauffeur keeps the hat box flat and the jacket on a hanger.

Not included

Enclosure tickets, hospitality and meals, all booked by you with the Regatta; the Enclosure allows no picnics inside.

The right vehicle

Which vehicle suits a Henley day, and what does it cost?

The Mercedes S-Class for a couple in Regatta dress, the V-Class for a party of six. The whole car is yours for the package hours.

Mercedes E-Class

3 passengers · 3 suitcases

£470

Mercedes V-Class

7 passengers · 7 suitcases · the party choice

£560

Mercedes S-Class

3 passengers · rear-seat comfort

£720

Range Rover

£830

One fixed price per car for the 8-hour package, which covers up to nine hours; each hour after that from £45.

Six adults in Regatta dress travel comfortably in a V-Class with hats on the third row; seating and boot details are on the Mercedes V-Class page. Every started hour counts in full: a late dinner in Henley adds one or two hours, never a fraction.

Drop-off and waiting

Where does the chauffeur drop us and wait at Henley?

At the Regatta’s official drop-off on the A4130, five minutes from the Enclosures. The car then parks outside the one-way system. The Regatta itself names the town centre as the most convenient set-down.

  • One-way system:Henley town centre runs one way during the Regatta, with different routes in and out depending on the hour; the chauffeur follows the signage, not the sat nav.
  • Official car parks:the Regatta’s own car parks (postcode RG9 2LP) open at 07:30 and lock at 21:00 and need a pre-booked label; the chauffeur uses them only if you hold one.
  • Collection:a text with your time brings the car back to the A4130 point; on Saturday evening allow ten minutes more for the crowd.
  • Phones:calls are not permitted inside the Stewards’ Enclosure; text messages are, so the chauffeur is reached by message.
  • Outside Regatta week?Henley is also the last stop of our Windsor Castle and Marlow day trip, which runs all year.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about the Henley day

Do you sell Henley Royal Regatta tickets?

No. Regatta Enclosure tickets are sold by the Regatta on its own site from spring 2027; the Stewards’ Enclosure admits members and their guests. Hospitality is sold by the Regatta’s official partner. Our part is the car, the chauffeur, the wait near Henley and the drive back to your hotel.

How long is the drive from London to Henley-on-Thames?

About an hour from central London on a normal day: the M4 to Junction 8/9, then 13 miles into Henley. During the Regatta the town runs a one-way system, so we allow 75 to 90 minutes. From Heathrow the drive is 23 miles.

What is the dress code, and can we change in the car?

The Stewards’ Enclosure requires dresses or skirts below the knee, or trouser suits, and jackets with ties for men; no jeans, shorts or leggings. The Regatta Enclosure has no formal code. Shoes and jackets can be swapped in the car before the walk; the hat box stays flat in the boot.

Can we stay for dinner in Henley after the racing?

Yes. Racing ends between 19:00 and 19:40 on weekdays, so a dinner in town takes the day past the package. Each extra hour is added at your vehicle’s hourly rate, and every started hour counts in full. Tell the chauffeur by text and the car waits.

Which car suits a party of six for the Regatta?

A Mercedes V-Class at £560 for the day. It seats seven with three rows, so hats survive the drive and six guests in Regatta dress arrive uncreased. Couples usually take the E-Class or S-Class; the Range Rover is the high-seat option for the lanes.

Can children come, and is a child seat available?

Yes. Children under 14 enter the Regatta Enclosure free with a ticket-holding adult. Children from ten are welcome in the Stewards’ Enclosure, dressed to its code. Child seats are fitted in the car on request at no charge; tell us the ages when you book.
