Dover has two cruise terminals, Cruise Terminal 1 and Cruise Terminal 2, side by side in the Western Docks at CT17 9DQ, plus a third berth, WD4, used for port calls. Heathrow is about 104 miles away: 1 h 55 min by car at 08:00 on a Friday. Your cruise line’s documents name the terminal.

Which Dover cruise terminal is my ship using: CT1, CT2 or WD4?
Six of the ten ship calls scheduled for autumn 2026 use Cruise Terminal 2, one uses Cruise Terminal 1 and three use the WD4 berth at Marina Curve, which takes port calls only. The port’s cruise schedule lists the terminal for every ship, and your cruise line’s boarding documents confirm it.
- Cruise Terminal 1 (CT1) is the former Dover Marine railway station, built in 1914 and converted with its station architecture intact.
- Cruise Terminal 2 (CT2) was purpose-built in 2000. Its first-floor departure lounge looks over the harbour to the White Cliffs and Dover Castle.
- WD4 is a multipurpose berth at Marina Curve, CT17 9FQ. Passengers on a port call walk from the ship along the marina curve to the seafront.
- Every berth has a passenger boarding bridge, so there is no tender boat, and both terminals have lifts, escalators and accessible washrooms.
What is inside the Dover cruise terminals, and what is missing?
The terminals are built for a quick check-in, not a long wait. Both have seating, washrooms, water dispensers, Wi-Fi and baggage handlers, but the port lists no food or drink outlets, no ATM, no currency exchange and no left-luggage room in either building.
- No waiting area for drivers. Passengers can be dropped at the terminal, but the port has no waiting area for cars, so a pickup has to be timed to your disembarkation.
- Eat before you arrive. With nothing to buy inside, a breakfast stop on the way from London or a meal in Dover town is the only option before boarding.
- Nowhere to leave bags. An early arrival or a late flight home means keeping the cases with you, or in the car.
- Cash and cards: the nearest ATM is at the BP garage on Limekiln Street, and the nearest currency exchange is at White Cliffs Park.
How long is the drive to the Dover cruise terminal, hour by hour?
From Heathrow the drive to the Dover cruise terminals takes 1 h 49 min at 06:00 and 2 h 30 min at 15:00 on a Friday, via the M25 and M20. From central London it ranges from 1 h 52 min to 2 h 34 min; from Gatwick it stays close to 90 minutes all day.

The return on disembarkation morning is where the hour matters most. Leave the port at 08:00 and Heathrow is 1 h 56 min away; leave at 11:00 and it is 2 h 39 min, as the M25 around Heathrow fills up.

- Gatwick is the easy airport for Dover. About 80 miles on the M20, 87 to 95 minutes from the port at any morning hour, so a Gatwick flight home leaves more slack than a Heathrow one.
- Morning flights home need an early start. For a noon flight from Heathrow, most travellers aim to be at the airport three hours ahead, which means leaving Dover by about 07:00 and choosing an early, self-carry disembarkation.

Can you get to the Dover cruise terminal by train?
Yes. Dover Priory is the nearest station, 66 minutes from London St Pancras International by high-speed train, and the cruise terminals are a 30 to 40 minute walk from the station. A station shuttle runs on selected dates, and there is a taxi rank outside the station and outside both terminals.
- The walk is the weak link. Forty minutes with cruise luggage is hard going, so check whether the shuttle runs on your date before relying on it.

- From London by car there is no change of train, no walk and no second taxi; the Heathrow to Dover cruise transfer runs door to terminal at a fixed fare agreed before you travel.
Is there parking at the Dover cruise terminal?
Yes. The port offers on-site, undercover valet parking run by Cruise and Passenger Services (CPS): you hand the car over at the terminal, it is parked in the port for the length of the cruise, and it is returned to you when you come back. Bookings go through CPS by phone or online.
- No electric vehicle charging in any port car park, so arrive with enough charge for the drive home.
- Visiting a ship? Registered visitors can use a visitor parking area for the day; staff direct you on arrival.
Which cruise ships call at Dover in autumn 2026?
Ten ship calls are scheduled at Dover between 27 September and 7 December 2026, the tail of the season. Ships arrive at 06:00 or 07:00 and sail between 18:00 and 20:00. Two, Holland America Line’s Nieuw Statendam on 2 and 16 October, begin or end a cruise in Dover; the rest are port calls.

How many cruise terminals does Dover have?
Two: Cruise Terminal 1, the converted 1914 Dover Marine station, and Cruise Terminal 2, purpose-built in 2000, both in the Western Docks at CT17 9DQ. A third berth, WD4 at Marina Curve, is used for port calls. The port schedule and your cruise documents say which one your ship uses.
How long does it take to drive from Heathrow to the Dover cruise terminal?
About 1 h 55 min at 08:00 and up to 2 h 30 min in the mid-afternoon, measured for a Friday in October 2026. The route is about 104 miles on the M25 and M20. Add time for passport control and baggage if you are coming straight off a flight.
Is there food at the Dover cruise terminal?
No. The Port of Dover says there are currently no food or drink outlets in either cruise terminal, and no ATM or currency exchange. Water dispensers, washrooms and Wi-Fi are available. Eat on the way or in Dover town before you check in for the ship.
Can I leave luggage at the Dover cruise terminal?
No. The port has no left-luggage facility before or after a cruise, and no waiting area for cars inside the port. If your flight home is late in the day, keep the bags in a pre-booked car or plan a day out that ends at the airport.
How do I get from Dover Priory station to the cruise terminal?
Walk 30 to 40 minutes, take the station shuttle on the dates it runs, or use the taxi rank outside Dover Priory. High-speed trains reach Dover Priory from London St Pancras in 66 minutes. On turnaround days the shuttle runs only between the station and the terminal.
Is Gatwick or Heathrow closer to the Dover cruise terminal?
Gatwick. It is about 80 miles and roughly 87 minutes from the terminals, against about 104 miles from Heathrow, and the Gatwick drive varies far less through the day. The port itself quotes 78 minutes from Gatwick and 95 from Heathrow as a guide.
