Plan your day

Which Loire châteaux should you choose?

There are dozens of castles in the valley. Two or three fit one day from Paris.

  • Chambord for size

The largest château of the Loire, with 440 rooms and a roof terrace of towers.

  • Chenonceau for beauty

Its gallery spans the river, and its gardens change with each season.

  • Amboise for history

A royal château above the town, and the house where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years.

  • Swap one if you prefer

Villandry is known for its gardens, Cheverny for its furnished rooms. Tell us when you book.

  • Arrive early at Chambord

The château opens at 9:00. Coach groups from Paris usually arrive mid-morning, so an early start means quieter rooms.

  • Reverse the order in winter

Chenonceau closes at 16:30 on most days from November to early April, while Chambord stays open until 17:00 in its low season. On a winter date, ask us to start with Chenonceau, stop in Amboise to eat, and keep Chambord for the afternoon.

Walking and access

How much walking is there at Chambord and Chenonceau?

Expect long corridors, gardens and some grand staircases. Both châteaux offer help for guests with reduced mobility, according to their official visitor information.

  • Chambord: the ground floor without steps

A ramp leads into the ground floor of the keep, and its rooms are accessible. For the upper floors, the HistoPad has a version for reduced mobility that shows their Renaissance reconstructions.

  • Chambord: wheelchairs on loan

Wheelchairs and seat sticks are lent at the ticket office or the château reception, subject to availability. A visitor with a disability and one companion enter free.

  • Chenonceau: a ramp and a video tour

A fitted ramp leads into the château, and a video tour shows each room. The gardens, restaurants, shop and toilets are wheelchair accessible, and a wheelchair can be booked free, with an ID left as a deposit.

  • Plan a gentler day

Tell us about any mobility needs when you send your request. We plan a slower pace, with fewer stops and more time at Chambord and Chenonceau.

Questions

Questions about a Loire Valley tour from Paris

Can you see the Loire Valley in a day from Paris?

Yes, with a private car. Chambord is about two hours from Paris, and Chenonceau an hour further. Twelve hours covers both châteaux, lunch in Amboise and the drive back.

How much does a Loire Valley private tour from Paris cost?

The twelve-hour day costs €1,195 in a Mercedes E-Class for up to three guests. A V-Class for up to seven costs €1,395. The price is for the car, not per person.

Which châteaux do you visit?

Chambord and Chenonceau are the usual pair, with a lunch stop in Amboise. You can swap one for Villandry, Cheverny or Amboise castle when you send your request.

Are château tickets included?

No. Tickets are bought directly from each château, ideally online before your trip. We plan your arrival times so you reach the first château soon after it opens.

Is the Loire Valley worth it in winter?

Yes. Chambord and Chenonceau open all year, and the crowds are much smaller. Days are shorter, so we plan an earlier start and return. Chenonceau is especially calm on winter mornings.

Can we taste Loire wine on the way?

Yes. Vouvray and Amboise have wine cellars close to the route, many carved into the soft limestone. Your chauffeur drives, so every guest in your group can enjoy a tasting.

How many Loire châteaux can we see in one day?

Two or three. The usual day pairs Chambord with Chenonceau and adds lunch in Amboise. The typical timings give around two hours at each of the two main castles, so neither visit feels rushed. Adding a third château means shorter visits.

Can we visit Leonardo da Vinci’s home at Le Clos Lucé?

Yes. The manor house in Amboise was Leonardo da Vinci’s last residence, and you can see his bedroom and workshop. Its park displays more than 40 models of his inventions. A full visit of the house, park and galleries takes two to three hours, so tell us if it should replace one château.

Do the châteaux offer audio guides?

Yes. Chambord offers the HistoPad, a tablet guide, along with audio guides and guided tours in English. Chenonceau sells its tickets with or without an audio guide. Choose the option when you buy your tickets online, since your chauffeur drives and is not a guide.
